Fencing for Albion's Yards, Building Sites and Cottages

Albion grew as a working suburb. A sandstone quarry, brickworks, sawmills and a flour mill once operated here, and small industry still holds ground along its back streets. Now apartments are rising around the station. Fencing in Albion has to handle both worlds at once.

Most of our work here falls into three groups: secure premises, active building sites and small homes on tight lots. For workshops we install security fencing and gates. For builders we set up site boundaries with delivery access. For cottages we fit compact chain wire runs and gates. We look at the site before pricing any fencing in Albion, and that visit costs nothing.

Why Albion Businesses and Builders Choose Sureline

Albion's neighbourhood plan aims to protect local character housing and light industry while allowing new higher-density housing. In practice, that means a workshop, a tower site and a timber cottage can share one block of street. Good fencing in Albion respects each neighbour's needs: security for the yard, safe access for the site and a tidy boundary for the house.

We make gates, frames and fence components in our own Geebung workshop, so we are not waiting on outside suppliers. When a yard gate is damaged and the premises is left open, a 48-hour turnaround is available on custom gates. Between them, our installers have over 90 years in the trade across commercial, industrial and residential work. We also take on the small jobs, such as a single cottage gate or one bent post. You get every quote for fencing in Albion itemised, on paper and at no charge.

What We Build Across Albion

These services cover most requests for fencing in Albion, from trade premises to building sites and small homes. Every item for fencing in Albion is quoted after we see the site.

Light-Industrial Security Fencing

Workshops, storage yards and trade premises need a boundary that is hard to climb, cut or lift. We install chain wire, weld mesh or palisade steel perimeters and close the gaps at gates and ground level. The security fencing Albion yards need is set by on what is stored inside, so we walk the site before recommending a type.

Best for: workshops, trade yards and storage premises

Commercial and Mixed-Use Frontages

Where a shop, office or showroom meets the footpath, the fence has to look neat and still lock up at night. Our commercial fencing comes with a galvanised, black powder or PVC coating. For mixed-use property fencing, we separate car parks, bin areas and service zones from public frontages with matching gates.

Best for: shopfronts, offices and mixed-use buildings

Building Site Fencing

Redevelopment near the station brings demolition, excavation and years of building work. Construction site fencing Albion builders use must hold a secure line along the street, with gates set for trucks and plant. We install it early in the job and can remove or convert it once the building is finished.

Best for: builders, developers and demolition contractors

Sliding and Swing Gates for Yards

A yard with a short setback often has no room for a swing gate to open. Our sliding gates run along the fence line and are built in our workshop to your measured opening. For wider entries we make heavy steel swing pairs. Hardware is sized to the gate weight so it keeps rolling or swinging under daily use.

Best for: industrial entries and tight driveways

Cottage Fencing and Repairs

Many of Albion's older workers' cottages sit on narrow lots between newer buildings. Our cottage fencing uses slim chain wire runs and steel-framed gates, including frames that take timber palings. We also handle fence repairs Albion owners need after a neighbouring build, such as a bent post or a dropped gate.

Best for: cottages, small houses and duplexes

How Albion's Mix of Uses Shapes Fencing

  • 74.1% flats Source: ABS 2021 QuickStats (Albion, SAL30024)
  • 61.2% rented Source: ABS 2021 QuickStats (Albion, SAL30024)
  • 253 units approved in Albion Exchange Stage 1 (Jan 2020) Source: The Urban Developer

Local context

Squeezed into roughly 1.4 km², Albion counted 3,446 residents at the 2021 Census, with a median age of 33. Three in four homes are flats, and most households rent. The Albion Flour Mill on Hudson Road ran from the 1930s until 2004 and was destroyed by fire on 27 November 2013. In January 2020 Council approved the first stage of Albion Exchange beside the station, with 253 units in two towers.

Common challenges

Industry, towers and cottages sit close together, so boundaries are short and access is tight. Building sites change their gate positions as work moves along. Breakfast Creek forms the southern edge, and floods in 1893, 1974, 2011 and 2022 damaged houses and businesses near it.

Why it matters

An open yard invites theft. A poorly placed site gate holds up deliveries and blocks the footpath. A cottage fence damaged by a neighbouring excavation needs a quick repair.

Our approach

Our first question on any fencing in Albion is how each boundary is used before choosing a product. Yards get heavier posts and lockable gates. Sites get gates positioned for truck movements. Cottages get compact chain wire fencing Albion owners can patch one bay at a time. Low-lying premises near the creek get fencing we can repair in sections after a flood. This keeps fencing in Albion practical for every neighbour.

Albion Fence Trouble We Get Called About

Three complaints come up again and again on fencing in Albion. Most come from the suburb's close mix of yards, building sites and homes. A quick inspection usually shows the right fix for your fencing in Albion.

"Someone keeps getting into our yard after hours"

Gaps under the mesh, loose sections beside gates and climbable rails on the outside face give easy entry to trade yards and storage areas.

Each break-in means lost tools or stock, downtime and a harder conversation with your insurer.

We walk the whole perimeter, close ground gaps, replace cut or lifted mesh and suggest weld mesh or palisade where the risk is higher. Signs to watch for: lifted mesh edges, marks on rails and gaps under the gate.

"The building next door damaged our fence"

Excavation, machinery and delivery trucks on a neighbouring redevelopment can knock posts out of line or crush a run of mesh.

A damaged boundary leaves your property open and can become a dispute if nobody records the damage early.

We inspect the run, give you a written quote that describes what failed, and replace posts, mesh or gates to match your existing finish.

"There's no room for our gate to swing"

Small front setbacks, parked cars and narrow driveways leave little space for a swing gate on many Albion lots and yards.

A gate that can't open fully gets left open, and then the yard or house is exposed.

We measure the opening and the run beside it, then build a sliding gate or a narrower swing pair in our Geebung workshop. Custom gates can be turned around in 48 hours.

What fencing suits a light-industrial premises in Albion?

That comes down to what you store and how vehicles move through the site. Chain wire keeps sightlines open for cameras. Weld mesh is harder to cut and climb. Palisade steel is a strong visual deterrent. For fencing in Albion, we also consider how close the yard sits to homes or apartments, since the fence faces both the street and your neighbours. We'll recommend industrial fencing to suit after a site walk.

Can you fence a redevelopment site near Albion station?

Yes. We install site fencing along street frontages and shared boundaries, with gates placed for deliveries, trucks and plant. Tell us about the build stages and any footpath or neighbour access at the measure. That way the gates sit where the site needs them from the first day of work, and the fencing in Albion comes down or converts cleanly when the build is done.

Can you fit a gate on a narrow cottage lot?

Yes. Many older Albion cottages have tight side passages and small front yards. We measure each opening and build a steel-framed gate to fit it, including frames that take timber palings to match an existing fence. Narrow pedestrian gates, bin-access gates and short chain wire runs are all small jobs we are happy to take on.

Will a tall security fence in Albion need approval?

It might. Council asks for building approval once a fence stands higher than 2 metres above natural ground, counting any screen or retaining wall under it. A fence that forms part of a regulated pool barrier also needs approval. Albion has its own neighbourhood plan, and plans and overlays can add rules, so look up your lot in City Plan. We'll raise any concerns at the site visit.

What does fencing in Albion cost?

Every site is priced on its own details: metres of fence, height, mesh type, coating, gate count and size, and how easily we can get trucks and materials in. Security mesh, sliding gates and building site fencing each carry different costs. After a free site visit you receive an itemised price in writing, which makes it simple to weigh up options for fencing in Albion.

When can work begin?

That comes down to the scope of the work and how booked up our crews are. Our Geebung workshop builds gates to order, and we can turn a custom gate around in 48 hours when a yard is left open. For building sites, let us know your start date early so the fence is ready before work begins. Ring (07) 3865 8100 and we'll give you a date we can keep.

Albion's Working Past and Our Part in It

Albion owes its name to the Albion Hotel, built by Thomas Hayseldon. John Petrie opened a white sandstone quarry here in 1860, and its pale face reminded Hayseldon of England's white cliffs. Albion comes from the Latin albus, meaning white. The railway station opened on 11 May 1882, and extra platforms followed in 1999. Industry arrived early, with James Campbell's brick and pottery works near Crosby Park, four sawmills and a furniture factory. The Albion Flour Mill later packed White Wings flour. Today the suburb is changing again as apartments rise near the station. Our crews handle fencing in Albion out of Geebung, a short drive north.
