Local context
Flinders Parade, formerly Brighton Esplanade, follows the Bramble Bay foreshore toward Sandgate. By the mid-1930s the stretch from First Avenue to Twelfth Avenue was lined with cafes, flats and boarding houses. La Vittoria at 412 Flinders Parade, an Art Deco home built in 1938, is locally heritage listed. Copold Creek drains the Brighton Wetlands into the bay between 15th and 16th Avenues. Many homes face straight onto the water. The Ted Smout bridge lands at the suburb's northern end.
Common challenges
Waterfront homes want views, privacy and pet security all at once. Salt spray and sand wear steel and fittings quickly. Character and Art Deco homes need fences that suit their style. Some owners also face overlays near the foreshore, so heights need checking. Wind off the water also puts more load on gates.
Why it matters
A tall front fence spoils the outlook. A poorly finished fence rusts and stains within a few years. A gate that seizes in the salt air soon gets left open.
Our approach
We recommend low, open front fences in PVC-coated mesh, capped posts and coated hardware, with taller boundaries at the side and rear. That keeps fencing in Brighton suited to the bay. Heights are checked before fencing in Brighton is ordered.
