Fencing Deagon

Open chain wire fences, gates and flood repairs for homes on Deagon's flat, low ground, made and installed from our Geebung workshop.

Deagon is flat, and when heavy rain or a high tide pushes water across the suburb, fences are part of what it meets. Our family business has made chain wire fences and steel gates since 1996, and we plan fencing in Deagon around how water moves through a yard. Open mesh lets it pass. Solid panels can hold it back and push over. As a fence contractor Deagon owners can reach quickly from Geebung, we measure on site and quote free. Call now to line up fencing in Deagon before the next storm season.

Fencing That Lets Water Through on Deagon's Flat Ground

Deagon has almost no slope. Water that arrives in a storm spreads out across yards and takes time to drain. That makes fencing in Deagon less about looks and more about what happens when the water comes. A fence that blocks the flow collects debris and silt, and the pressure builds against it. A fence that lets water pass tends to stay standing.

We build chain wire fencing and gates for Deagon homes, and we repair fences after a flood or a big storm. Our workshop is in Geebung, so fencing in Deagon doesn't wait on parts from outside suppliers. If you'd like to see mesh and posts first, browse our fencing supplies.

Why Deagon Homeowners Choose Sureline

In 2010, flooding in Deagon was serious enough that around 20 homes needed rescue. The suburb also sits on the Queensland Government's coastal hazard map sheet for Sandgate, which shows storm tide inundation areas. Every low-lying block is different, so fencing in Deagon starts with a look at where water enters your yard and where it leaves.

We make our own gates, posts and chain wire in Geebung. After a flood, that means a bent post or a twisted gate can be replaced from our own workshop. Our crew brings more than 90 years of combined experience, and we're happy to fix one damaged panel or one gate that no longer shuts. Every quote for fencing in Deagon is free and in writing.

Fencing Services for Deagon Properties

These services cover most of our fencing in Deagon. Each one is planned with drainage in mind, so fencing in Deagon holds up on flat, low ground.

Open Mesh Boundary Fencing

Open mesh fencing is our usual pick for a low-lying block. Chain wire gives water, leaves and silt a way through, so less pressure builds against the posts. Posts go into concrete footings, the mesh is pulled tight, and we can leave a small gap at the base where drainage matters. It suits front, side and rear boundaries on any flat block.

Best for: homes on flat or flood-prone ground

Flood and Storm Repairs

After heavy rain or a storm tide event, fences lean, gates jam and mesh fills with debris. We inspect the whole run, replace bent posts, clear or replace damaged mesh and rehang gates. If your insurer needs a written quote for a flood damaged fence, we can provide one. Fence repairs Deagon owners need after a storm are usually urgent.

Best for: owners dealing with storm or flood damage

Entry, Side and Driveway Gates

Gates on flat ground can drag when footings settle after wet weather. We build pedestrian gates and driveway gates in our workshop to your exact opening, with hinges and latches sized to the frame. Sliding gates suit wide driveways where a swing gate would drag through wet ground or collect debris.

Best for: front entries, side paths and driveways

Dividing Fence Replacement

When a flood hits a street, neighbours often lose the same fence at the same time. We quote a replacement dividing fence in chain wire that both owners can review, with a clear list of height, finish and posts. That makes it easier to agree on the work and the shared cost.

Best for: neighbours replacing a shared boundary

The fencing supplies Deagon owners need for a quick fix, from mesh and posts to rails, fittings and DIY kits, are stocked at our Geebung outlet. You get advice from the team who installs the same products each week. We also deliver across Brisbane, which helps when a car is full of storm clean-up.

Best for: home handypeople and tradies

How Flat Ground and Water Shape Fencing in Deagon

  • About 20 homes needed rescue in the 2010 flood Source: Queensland Places – Deagon
  • 87.5% of dwellings are separate houses Source: ABS 2021 Census QuickStats, Deagon
  • 50 ha Deagon Wetlands Source: Wikipedia – Deagon, Queensland

Local context

Deagon covers about 3 square kilometres between Sandgate and Boondall. Its terrain is notably flat, and Cabbage Tree Creek forms one boundary, with the Boondall Wetlands on the far bank. The 50-hectare Deagon Wetlands hold tea-tree woodland. Most homes are detached houses, many on streets laid out after early estates such as Blackwood near the station. Deagon Racecourse on Board Street is now a horse training facility and, since 2013, home to the Queensland Racing Academy.

Common challenges

On flat ground, water has nowhere quick to go. It can sit in yards, soften footings and leave silt and debris along the base of a fence. Deagon appears on the state storm tide inundation map sheet for Sandgate, although the risk for each property varies.

Why it matters

A solid fence can act like a small dam. As water and debris build up, posts lean or panels fall. After the water drops, owners face repairs on top of the clean-up. Where a shared fence goes down, both neighbours usually split the cost of a sufficient replacement under Queensland's dividing fence law.

Our approach

For fencing in Deagon we check where water enters and leaves your yard, then favour open chain wire and posts set deep in concrete. We keep gate footings firm and clear. That way fencing in Deagon lets water through and stays upright.

Deagon Fence Problems We Fix Most Often

These are the questions we hear most about fencing in Deagon, especially after wet weather. Most come back to how water moves across flat ground. Each has a practical fix for fencing in Deagon.

"After the flood, the whole fence line is leaning"

Water pushing against a fence clogged with leaves and debris puts heavy load on the posts, and soaked ground lets footings shift.

A leaning fence can fall in the next storm and leaves pets and children without a secure yard.

We straighten or replace the affected posts, reset footings in concrete and re-tension or replace the mesh. Where a solid fence failed, we can suggest open chain wire so water passes next time. Warning signs: posts out of line, cracked footings, sagging mesh.

Get a leaning fence fixed

"The gate drags since the yard went under"

Wet ground can let the hinge post settle, and silt builds up under the gate, so it drags and misses the latch.

If the gate stays open, the fence is doing nothing, and forcing it bends the frame.

We check the post and footing first, clear the path, then rehang or re-square the gate. If the frame is twisted, we build a new one in our Geebung workshop. Warning signs: scraping sounds, a latch that won't catch, a gap that grows at the top.

Replacement gate frames

"Rubbish and silt keep piling up against the fence"

Fences with little or no gap at the base catch everything the water carries across a flat block.

The build-up holds water against the fence, loads the posts and makes the next clean-up harder.

We can replace the lower section with open mesh, leave a small drainage gap where it is safe to do so, and keep the fence line clear of garden beds that trap debris. Warning signs: silt lines on the mesh, pooling water, rust at ground level.

What type of fence suits a low-lying block in Deagon?

Open chain wire is usually the best fit. It lets flood water, leaves and silt pass through, so less pressure builds against the posts. Solid panels can trap water and fall. For fencing in Deagon we set posts in concrete and pick a mesh height and finish that suit your yard. If privacy matters, we can talk through options that still let water drain.

Is my Deagon property at risk from storm tide?

Deagon appears on the Queensland Government's coastal hazard map sheet for Sandgate, which shows storm tide inundation areas. That does not mean every home is affected, and the risk varies by property. Check your address on the state coastal hazard maps and in Brisbane City Plan flood overlays. We can then plan fencing in Deagon to suit your block.

Can you give a quote for insurance after flood damage?

Yes. We inspect the damage, explain what failed and why, and provide an itemised written quote to send on to your insurer. We can fix a flood damaged fence in sections or replace the whole run, depending on the extent of the damage. Because our workshop is in Geebung, we make replacement posts, mesh and gates ourselves.

Do you build horse fencing for properties near the racecourse?

Our work in Deagon is residential and commercial chain wire fencing, gates and repairs. Deagon Racecourse is a local landmark, and the suburb has a long racing history, but we don't claim specialist horse fencing. If you have a different type of job, call us and describe it. We will tell you honestly whether it suits what we build.

What drives the price of fencing in Deagon?

Metres of fence, height, mesh type and finish all count, along with gates, ground conditions and any damaged fencing that must be pulled out first. After a flood, clearing silt and debris can add time. We come out, measure at no charge and send a written, itemised price. Comparing chain wire fencing Deagon quotes? Line them up on height, finish and the number of gates.

After a storm, how soon can your crew get here?

Demand rises after big storms, so start dates depend on the job size and the queue at the time. Because we're based in Geebung, getting out to measure is rarely a problem. Replacement gates are made in our own workshop, with a 48-hour turnaround available on custom orders. Ring (07) 3865 8100 for a start date you can plan around, then keep you updated.

Sureline Fencing: Serving Deagon from Geebung

The suburb is named after William Deagon, Mayor of Sandgate from 1882 to 1884. The Sandgate Amateur Turf Club was holding full-day race meetings by 1885, and in 1890 its trustees were granted 87 acres for what became Deagon Racecourse. The Blackwood housing estate opened around the station in 1908. Sandgate State High School was built in Deagon in 1959, and by 1976 the population had grown to 3,378. The racecourse was registered as a horse training facility in 1982, and the Queensland Racing Academy opened there in 2013. Our crews now handle fencing in Deagon out of the Geebung workshop, a short drive west.
