Aspley is one suburb with two fencing markets, and the border between them is the railway line. Brisbane City Plan's Banyo–Aspley neighbourhood plan sets the growth node around Aspley station as primarily residential west of the line and primarily mixed industry and business east of it. Council planning also supports the ongoing operation of industrial activity in Brisbane's Northern industrial area and along Toombul Road, while the residential streets are a mix of low density, character residential and low-medium density housing.
