Fencing Grange

Whole-yard boundaries, child-safe side gates and rear fences onto Kedron Brook parkland for Grange's family homes.

Grange is one of the most family-heavy suburbs in Brisbane's inner north. Almost one in five residents is aged 5 to 14, households average 2.9 people, and many back yards open onto the Kedron Brook parklands and bikeway. For families, the whole fence line matters: side gates the toddler can't open, a back fence the dog can't get under and boundaries that hold up through busy weekends. Our fencing in Grange service replaces and installs complete yard boundaries, and fencing in Grange comes with a written, itemised price.

Safe, Secure Yards for Grange Families

In 2021, 9.2% of Grange residents were aged 5 to 9, well above the Queensland figure of 6.4%, and 78.6% of households were families (ABS 2021). Busy family yards test every part of a fence. Balls go over, gates get left open and pets probe the base, especially where the yard backs onto open parkland.

We install whole-yard boundary replacement, child-safe side gates and pet-secure chain wire for Grange homes. Every fence installation Grange families book opens with us pacing the full boundary with you. That's how fencing in Grange covers every weak point, and fencing in Grange is usually finished in one visit.

Why Grange Families Choose Sureline

Families rarely need just one fence fixed. The side gate sticks, the back fence leans and the dog has found a gap by the shed. We look at the whole yard, list everything that needs doing and quote it in one go. As a residential fencing contractor licensed by the QBCC (1016362), we've built fences since 1996 and still draw, weld and fit our own work. That's why fencing in Grange from us is planned around how the family uses the yard.

Child-safe side gates get spring hinges and a latch mounted above toddler height, and we swing each one closed a few times before packing up. Pet-secure chain wire has a tight bottom wire and close ties, so dogs struggle to push underneath. Rear fences onto parkland suit black PVC-coated boundaries that fade into the green, keeping the outlook open. Where a pool sits in the yard, pool-zone separation fencing, and any boundary fence forming part of the pool barrier, must meet Queensland's pool safety standard, so we coordinate with a pool barrier specialist before that section is touched. One-visit family installs keep disruption low, and fencing in Grange is left tidy for the kids to get straight back outside.

Family Fencing Services in Grange

Most family fencing Grange households need comes from the five services below. Fencing in Grange is planned around the whole yard, and where the job allows, fencing in Grange is done in one visit.

Whole-Yard Boundary Replacement

When several sides of a yard are failing, replacing them together costs less and looks better than patching one at a time. We measure every side, set new posts in concrete and install fresh chain wire throughout, with gates matched to the new fence.

Best for: tired boundaries.

Child-Safe Side Gates

For families, the side gate matters most, because the path beyond it usually runs to the street. We weld it to the path's width and fit spring hinges with a latch mounted high. We let it swing from half-open and from fully open to prove it shuts by itself.

Best for: side paths.

Rear Fences onto Parkland

Many Grange yards back onto the Kedron Brook parklands. We install open chain wire that keeps children and pets in while preserving the view, kept wholly within your title boundary. A black or green coating lets it sit back among the trees.

Best for: parkland boundaries.

Pet-Secure Chain Wire

Dogs test the bottom of a fence first. We run a strained wire along the base and tie the mesh closely, and in soft ground near the brook we can add a buried strip of mesh. The result is a boundary that stands up to determined diggers.

Best for: dog owners.

Black PVC-Coated Boundaries

Coated in black PVC, chain wire stays neat, holds off corrosion and almost disappears against gardens. It's a popular choice for Grange's renovated homes, where a bare galvanised fence would look out of place next to new paint and landscaping. It suits side fences too, wherever the outlook matters.

Best for: renovated homes.

Local context

Grange runs along the south side of Kedron Brook, where the Kedron Brook Bikeway stretches almost 20 km from Mitchelton to Nundah. Parks include Grange Forest Park, Halford Park, Emerson Park and Gilbert Road Park. Wilston State School, opened in August 1920, sits within the suburb, Grange Thistle has fielded more than 95 junior teams, and Valleys rugby league has played at Emerson Park since 1971.

Common challenges

Family yards take constant wear from children, pets and sport. Yards that back onto parkland face foot traffic on the other side and soft, damp ground near the brook. Council noted after the 2022 floods that a rebuilt bikeway may move closer to houses. Owners also want fences that suit renovated homes. Lower-lying yards can also stay wet for days after heavy rain, which softens footings.

Why it matters

A side gate a child can open leads straight to the street. A gap under the back fence lets a dog onto the bikeway. A patchwork of old and new fencing makes a renovated home look unfinished.

Our approach

We walk the whole yard, quote every side and gate, and install it together. That's how fencing in Grange closes every weak point at once. Rear boundaries onto parkland are built so fencing in Grange keeps both the kids and the view.

Fixing Grange's Most Common Family Fence Problems

Ask Grange parents about their fences and three gripes come up most. Fencing in Grange fixes each one, and a walk around the yard is how fencing in Grange gets planned.

The toddler keeps opening the side gate

The latch sits at adult hand height, and the gate doesn't close on its own.

One unlatched gate gives a toddler a clear run to the driveway.

We fit spring hinges and a latch set high, out of reach of small children, or replace the gate outright when its frame has sagged. Each gate is tested from fully open to closed. Matching hardware can be fitted to every side gate in the yard at the same time.

The dog keeps getting onto the bikeway

The rear fence onto the parkland has lifted at the base or has gaps beside the posts.

On a busy bikeway, a loose dog endangers riders, walkers and itself.

We re-run a strained bottom wire, tie the mesh down closely and close gaps at the posts. In soft ground near the brook, a buried strip of mesh deters digging. If the posts have failed, we replace the run entirely.

Every side of the yard is a different fence

Boundaries were replaced piecemeal across several decades, by different owners and contractors.

The yard looks patchy next to a renovated house, and some old sections are close to failing.

We replace the whole boundary in one consistent finish, often black PVC-coated chain wire, with gates to match. Shared sections can be quoted separately so neighbours can contribute their share under Queensland's dividing fence rules.

Can you replace every fence in the yard at once?

Yes, and it's often the most economical option. We measure every side, list each run and gate on one quote and install them together, usually in a single visit. One consistent finish around the yard looks far better than a mix of old and new sections, and replacing everything at once means no forgotten weak spot is left for the dog to find.

What makes a side gate child-safe?

Two things matter most: where the latch sits and whether the gate shuts by itself. We mount the latch well above the reach of small children and fit spring hinges so the gate swings closed after every use. Hinge tension is set so the gate closes firmly without slamming on small fingers. Each gate is tested before we leave, as standard for family fencing in Grange.

Can you fence a pool area?

Pool barriers must meet Queensland's pool safety standard and need building approval and inspection, so they're specialist work. Our focus is the boundary and yard fencing around the pool zone. If one of your boundary fences forms part of the pool barrier, it must stay compliant, so we plan that section with your pool barrier specialist before anything is changed. That way the whole yard ends up secure and the barrier stays certified.

What fence suits a boundary onto the parkland?

Open chain wire, usually coated in black or green, keeps children and pets in without blocking the view of the trees. Because it lets floodwater pass, it also suits yards near Kedron Brook. The fence must sit entirely within your property, and if your boundary adjoins Council parkland, it's worth checking any Council requirements before work starts on fencing in Grange.

How do you stop the dog digging out?

Most escapes happen at the base, so that's where we focus: a tight bottom wire, close ties and no gaps beside posts or gates. Near the brook, soft ground can need buried mesh as well. If the posts themselves are moving, patching won't last, and we'll recommend replacing the run. Tell us about your dog's habits during the walk-through so we can plan for them.

Who pays for shared boundaries?

Under Queensland's dividing fence rules, neighbours usually share the cost of a sufficient fence equally. We can price the shared sections separately from the rest of your yard, so each neighbour sees exactly what they're being asked to contribute. That makes the conversation easier and lets the work go ahead once everyone has agreed.
