DIY Chain Wire Fencing Kits

Chain Wire Mesh Rolls

Chain wire mesh rolls come in galvanised or PVC-coated finishes, in heights from 0.9 m upward. For a family yard, 1.2 m to 1.8 m is common. Black PVC-coated chain wire looks tidy against lawn and gardens, and the coating helps protect the wire from the bay air.

Fence Posts Cut to Size

Galvanised posts and rails for line posts, end posts and gate posts. We cut fence posts to size while you wait, so they fit in a car or ute and go straight into the ground. Tell us your fence height and soil type, and we'll suggest the right length.

Best for: custom heights

Gates and Child-Safe Gate Latches

We make pedestrian and driveway gates to size, with child-safe gate latches mounted high and out of small hands' reach. Self-closing hinges help the gate shut on its own. If your yard holds a pool, the pool fence has its own stricter rules, so ask us first.

Best for: yards with kids

Fencing Tools

Fencing tools make the job faster and the result tighter. We sell wire strainers, tensioners and other tools for building chain wire fences. Most tools are available for same-day pickup, and they can be added to a supply order for delivery.

19.2 km² suburb area

Wikipedia – Deception Bay, Queensland

Local context

Deception Bay covers about 19.2 square kilometres on the south-eastern corner of the bay of the same name, about 32 km north of the Brisbane CBD. The bay is part of the Moreton Bay Ramsar wetland. The suburb grew quickly from 3,857 people in 1981 to over 19,000 today, so many homes date from the 1980s and 1990s and their original fences are now ageing.

Common challenges

There are three things to plan for. First, a family yard has to be secure at the bottom as well as the top, because toddlers and dogs find gaps. Second, the council's storm-tide study names the Deception Bay area among the places with higher storm-tide levels. Third, older fences from the growth years often need full replacement, not just repair.

Why it matters

A gap under a gate or a loose bottom wire is how most dogs and small children get out. Low-lying ground near the bay can stay wet, which shortens post life. Patching an old fence piece by piece can cost more than a new kit.

Our approach

We plan the yard as one fence. Measure the boundary and gate openings, and we'll cut a kit to size and add a matching gate and latch. For homes near the water, we suggest PVC-coated mesh and deeper post footings. That makes fencing supplies in Deception Bay last longer. Every set of fencing supplies in Deception Bay comes with build advice.

Deception Bay DIY Fence Problems and How to Avoid Them

These mistakes are the ones we hear about most from DIY builders. Each is easy to avoid with the right fencing supplies in Deception Bay and a bit of planning. Call us to check your plan before you buy fencing supplies in Deception Bay.

"The mesh sags between posts"

The mesh was hung without enough tension, or the end posts weren't braced, so they leaned in when the wire was pulled tight.

Saggy mesh looks poor and leaves gaps at the bottom where dogs and small children can push through.

Brace every end, corner and gate post before tensioning. Run tension wire along the top and bottom, then strain it with a proper tensioner. Tie the mesh to each post and to the wire at regular gaps. Our kits include the bracing and fittings, and we sell the tools to strain the wire properly.

"The kids can reach the gate latch"

Standard latches are mounted at hand height for adults, which is also reachable for children standing on tiptoe.

A child who can open the gate can reach the street or the bay foreshore.

Fit a child-safe latch at the top of the gate and add self-closing hinges. Make sure the gate shuts and latches on its own from any open position. For a pool area, follow the stricter pool fence rules, including a gate that self-closes and latches.

"We ran short of parts on Saturday"

DIY lists often miss fittings such as tension bands, rail ends and ties, or underestimate the number of posts.

The job stops halfway, and the yard is left open until the next trip.

Order a kit cut to your measurements instead of buying parts one by one. Measure every side, every corner and each gate opening before you order. We'll turn those numbers into a complete parts list.

Can I really build a chain wire fence myself?

Yes, most handy home owners can. The keys are firm, braced end posts, the right post depth and properly tensioned wire. Our kits are cut to your measurements and come with every part, so there's no guesswork. Ask us at the counter and we'll walk you through the steps before you start your fencing supplies in Deception Bay project.

How deep should the posts go?

Kit posts are usually set 600 to 900 mm deep, depending on the fence height and the ground. Taller fences, gate posts and soft or sandy soil need the deeper end. Set posts in concrete and slope the top away from the steel so water runs off. Tell us your fence height and soil, and we'll suggest a depth.

What height should a family backyard fence be?

For most family yards, 1.2 m to 1.8 m is common. Taller fences suit larger dogs or a busy street. Under Queensland's dividing fence law, a sufficient fence between residential neighbours is generally between 0.5 m and 1.8 m high. Fences over 2 m generally need building approval in Moreton Bay, so most owners stay below that.

Can I use this fence around a pool?

Not without checking the rules. Pool fences in Queensland must meet the pool safety standard, which includes a height of at least 1200 mm, small gaps at the base and gates that close and latch on their own. Pool fences also need approval. Talk to us before ordering fencing supplies in Deception Bay for a pool area.

Do you deliver kits to Deception Bay?

Yes. We offer delivery across Moreton Bay, including Deception Bay. A full backyard kit has long posts and several rolls of mesh, so delivery is often easier than a trailer. Tell us your address and where the truck can drop the load. We'll confirm the cost when we quote. Smaller orders can be collected from Geebung on weekdays.

What tools do I need?

You'll need a post-hole digger or auger, a level, a string line, a wire strainer or tensioner and pliers or wire cutters. We sell fencing tools for chain wire fences, and most are available for same-day pickup. Add them to your kit order so everything arrives together. Not sure what you already have? Bring a list to the counter and we'll fill the gaps.

Sureline Fencing: Supplying Deception Bay from Geebung

John Oxley named Deception Bay in 1823 after he mistook it for a river mouth. The land opened to selection in 1861. Dr Joseph Bancroft arrived in 1881, and the sea baths carved into the sandstone at Captain Cook Parade date from his time. They are now heritage listed. A provisional school opened in November 1892. A shopping centre with 52 specialty shops opened in 1980, and the population grew from 976 in 1971 to over 16,000 by 2001. Sureline Fencing began in Northgate in 1996 and moved to Geebung in 2006. Fencing supplies in Deception Bay now come from that workshop.
