Fencing Hendra

Secure chain wire perimeters, steel gates and repairs for Hendra homes, townhouses and properties with stables out the back, built in our Geebung workshop.

Hendra is one of the few Brisbane suburbs where a stable block can sit behind the house next door. That mix asks a lot of fencing in Hendra. Gates open and close all day, trucks and floats come through driveways, and sheds hold gear worth protecting. Sureline Fencing is a family business that has been welding steel gates and running chain wire in Brisbane since 1996. Call us as the fence contractor Hendra owners can reach quickly: we come out, measure, price it free and build each gate to its opening. Ring today to arrange fencing in Hendra.

Fencing for Hendra's Racing Streets and Family Homes

Hendra grew up beside Brisbane's racing industry. The Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses sit just over the border in Ascot, and trainers have lived and worked in Hendra's streets for generations. So fencing in Hendra often has two jobs: keep a family yard safe and secure a working back block.

We build the practical side of that. Think chain wire fencing Hendra properties use along boundaries, lockable enclosures around sheds and tack rooms, and gates hung on posts sized for constant use. We don't make specialist horse fencing. What we do make is strong steel perimeter fencing and gates that stand up to a busy property. Measures are free, and every price for fencing in Hendra comes in writing.

Built for Busy Gates and Working Blocks

A driveway gate on a Hendra stable property might swing dozens of times a day while horses, floats and deliveries come and go. A cheap hinge or an undersized post shows up fast under that load. Good fencing in Hendra starts with posts, footings and hardware chosen for how often the gate actually moves.

We make our gates in our own Geebung workshop, so we choose the frame, hinge and latch ourselves. Founded at Northgate, Sureline relocated to Geebung in 2006 for more workshop space. One trade customer has had us make all his gates for eight years, which says something about how they last. If a gate on your block fails, our crew can come out for the small job too. Your fencing in Hendra quote costs nothing and arrives itemised.

What We Build for Hendra Properties

Most requests for fencing in Hendra fall into one of five jobs, from a house boundary to a working back block. Gates come out of our own workshop and parts sit on our shelves, so fencing in Hendra isn't held up by a supplier.

Heavy-Use Driveway and Sliding Gates

Driveway gates on busy Hendra blocks carry more traffic than most. We build steel driveway gates and sliding gates to the exact opening, with posts, hinges and tracks sized to the weight. Sliding gates suit wide entries where a swing gate would block the drive. These heavy-use gates are made in our workshop and fitted by the same crew.

Best for: stable properties and homes with wide driveways

Security Fencing for Sheds and Yards

Feed rooms, tack sheds and equipment yards hold gear owners want locked up. We install security fencing Hendra properties use around sheds and service areas, in chain wire, weld mesh or palisade steel with lockable gates. Shed and yard fencing can be a small enclosure or a full compound at the rear of the lot.

Best for: back-block sheds, gear stores and service yards

Chain Wire Boundary and Perimeter Fencing

Galvanised or black chain wire gives a strong, see-through boundary that is quick to repair in sections. Posts go into concrete footings and the mesh is strained tight, with a bottom rail to keep dogs in. Perimeter fencing around a whole lot keeps visitors to the gate you choose.

Best for: house boundaries and full-lot perimeters

Townhouse Fencing and Shared Boundaries

About one Hendra dwelling in nine is a townhouse. Townhouse fencing needs a consistent finish across the complex and courtyard gates that close every time. We quote shared boundaries, bin areas and replacement runs for owners and body corporates, in one finish across the site.

Best for: strata townhouse sites and shared courtyards

Commercial and complex fencing

Fence and Gate Repairs

Busy gates wear hinges, drop on their posts and stop latching. We rehang or rebuild gates, replace bent posts and re-tension slack mesh. Most fence repairs Hendra calls bring us begin at the post and footing, since that is where a gate usually fails first.

Best for: owners, landlords and trainers with worn gates

Local context

Hendra's racing links go back to the 1880s, when estates were laid out on former Queensland Turf Club land north of Eagle Farm Racecourse. Streets such as Derby St carry racing names. By 1949 the post office directory listed more than 50 horse trainers under Hendra. Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses are in Ascot, along Hendra's southern edge. Kedron Brook runs through the suburb, and about 4,914 people lived here in 2021 (ABS).

Common challenges

Stables and houses share streets, so one block may need a tidy front fence while the next needs a secure yard and a gate that opens all day. Heavy vehicles and floats test posts and hinges. Brisbane City Plan also includes a Racecourse Precinct neighbourhood plan covering land around the racecourses. Whether it affects your lot is worth checking in City Plan.

Why it matters

Mortgages and rents in Hendra are high by Brisbane standards. A failed gate or a gap in the perimeter puts stock, pets and property at risk, and owners paying that much expect fencing that works every day.

Our approach

We begin every quote for fencing in Hendra by asking how the property is used. We note gate traffic, vehicle sizes and what needs locking away, then specify posts and hardware to match. That keeps fencing in Hendra reliable long after the first year.

Hendra Fence and Gate Problems, Fixed

Three faults come up again and again when owners call about fencing in Hendra. One visit is normally enough to tell if a repair will hold or if that part of your fencing in Hendra should be rebuilt.

"Our driveway gate sags and scrapes after all the traffic"

A gate that opens many times a day wears its hinges fast, and an undersized post slowly leans under the weight until the gate drops and drags on the drive.

A gate that has to be lifted to close tends to get left open, and that defeats the point of a secure perimeter.

We check the post and footing first, then rehang the gate on heavier hinges or build a new steel frame sized for the load. For wide entries we may suggest a sliding gate instead.

"Someone got into the shed at the back of the block"

Rear sheds and gear stores are often fenced with old mesh, low gates or cheap padlocks that are easy to climb or cut.

Saddlery, tools and equipment are costly to replace, and a break-in can leave the whole back block exposed.

We enclose sheds and yards with taller chain wire, weld mesh or palisade security fencing and a lockable steel gate. Signs to watch for: loose mesh at the base, bent top rails and gates that rattle when closed.

"The fence near the brook keeps getting damaged"

Kedron Brook runs through Hendra, and after heavy summer rain, debris and soft ground can push against low fence sections and loosen footings.

A loose section near the brook gives pets an easy way out and lets water-borne rubbish collect along the line.

We reset loose posts in fresh concrete and replace damaged mesh in sections, so you don't pay for a whole new run. Check your property's flood overlay in City Plan before planning new work near the brook.

Do you build horse fencing for Hendra stables?

We don't build specialist horse fencing. For fencing in Hendra stable properties, we supply and install steel perimeter fencing, security enclosures for sheds and gear, and heavy-use driveway and sliding gates. Many trainers and owners use us for the gates and secure yards around their stables. Tell us how the property works at the measure, and we'll say plainly which parts of the job we can do.

Are the Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses in Hendra?

No. Both racecourses are in Ascot, along Hendra's southern edge. Hendra's link is through the trainers and stables that have long been part of its streets. Brisbane City Plan includes a Racecourse Precinct neighbourhood plan for land around the racecourses. If your property is close by, check City Plan before planning new fencing in Hendra, and we'll flag anything unusual when we measure.

Can you fence a Hendra townhouse complex?

Yes. We quote shared boundaries, courtyard gates, bin enclosures and replacement runs for owners and body corporates. Black powder-coated chain wire gives a neat, even look across a complex, and it can be repaired one panel at a time. When only a stretch of a Hendra townhouse boundary is failing, fencing in Hendra complexes can be patched in the colour already on site.

Will a taller security fence around my shed need approval?

It might. Council building approval kicks in once a fence stands over 2 metres above natural ground, counting any screen or retaining wall under it, and for any fence that is part of a regulated pool barrier. Most house boundaries sit well below that. Neighbourhood plans and overlays may add their own rules, so look your lot up in City Plan before you commit to a height.

What will fencing in Hendra cost me?

There's no flat rate. Length, height, mesh type, coating, gate count and size, crew access and any old fence to pull out all change the figure. A heavy driveway gate costs more than a light side gate because its posts and hinges are bigger. After a free measure you get an itemised price in writing, and you can drop or add items to suit the budget.

How soon can a broken gate be replaced?

That hangs on how big the job is and how booked up we are that week. Custom replacement gates have a 48-hour turnaround available, which matters when a failed driveway gate leaves a stable yard open. Geebung is a short run from Hendra, so fitting in a measure is rarely hard. Ring (07) 3865 8100 for an honest start date on fencing in Hendra.

Hendra's Story and Our Geebung Base

Hendra took its name from a railway stopping place on the 1882 racecourse branch line, probably named after Hendra in Cornwall. The local school opened as Eagle Farm State School in 1864 and was renamed Hendra in 1908. In 1887 the Hendra Railway Station Estate was cut into 83 allotments, and in 1888 and 1889 the house Glengariff was built on Derby St, on former Queensland Turf Club land. Racing shaped the suburb for decades after. Hendra's high school opened on Zillman Rd in 1963, and the Gateway Arterial was built around its north-west edge in 1986. Today our crews travel down from Geebung to handle fencing in Hendra.
