Fencing Built for Deception Bay's Schools and Centres

Couples with children make up 36.0% of Deception Bay families, and one-parent families make up 25.8%, well above the Queensland figure of 16.8% (ABS 2021). Schools and childcare centres here look after a lot of children. Their fences have to stop small children wandering out and keep the public from walking in.

We install school perimeter fencing, childcare fencing and fencing around ovals and courts. Every pedestrian gate can be fitted with self-closing hinges and child-safe latches. Business managers get one contact for fencing in Deception Bay from measure to handover. We schedule fencing in Deception Bay for school holidays wherever we can.

Why Deception Bay Schools and Centres Choose Sureline

A school fence is not a backyard fence. It runs for hundreds of metres, must resist climbing and is checked by people responsible for children's safety. We are a licensed fencing contractor Moreton Bay schools can look up on the QBCC register (licence 1016362), and we have installed commercial chain wire and mesh fencing since 1996. Gates are fabricated in our own Geebung workshop, so the frames, hinges and latches are made to suit each opening. That control is what principals and centre directors need from fencing in Deception Bay.

We also understand how schools work. We meet the business manager or facilities officer on site, walk the boundary and note where children gather, where vehicles enter and which gates must stay locked during the day. Quotes are itemised, so they can go to a school council or a regional office for approval. Our team has more than 90 years of combined experience. Where possible we book school holiday installation, so crews and machinery stay clear of students. Finishes can be powder-coated to match school colours, which makes new fencing in Deception Bay look like part of the grounds.

Fencing Services for Deception Bay Schools and Childcare

Schools and centres tend to ask us for the same five things. Any of them can be part of fencing in Deception Bay on its own, or grouped into one stage of fencing in Deception Bay for a bigger campus.

School Perimeter Fencing

Perimeter fences for primary and high schools are usually 1.8 m to 2.1 m high. We install chain wire or welded mesh with posts set in concrete and the mesh tensioned mechanically, so the line stays straight. Anti-climb mesh is available for boundaries that face a road or a reserve.

Best for: school boundaries

See school fencing

Childcare Fencing

Childcare fencing has to stop the smallest children finding a gap. We keep the bottom of the mesh tight to the ground, fit gates that close and latch on their own, and place latches out of reach. Talk to us about the requirements your centre is assessed against before we quote.

Best for: early learning centres

See school fencing

Sports Area Fencing

Sports area fencing around ovals, courts and practice nets is taller, often 2.4 m to 4 m, to keep balls in play and off roads. We use heavier posts and bracing for the extra height and wind load, with gates wide enough for mowers and maintenance vehicles.

Best for: ovals and courts

See tennis court fencing

Self-Closing Gates and Child-Safe Latches

We fabricate pedestrian and vehicle gates to size in our Geebung workshop. Our self-closing gates suit pedestrian entries and come with child-safe latches, while vehicle gates can be made automation-ready. Locks and drop bolts suit gates that must stay shut during school hours.

Best for: entries and exits

Powder-Coated Chain Wire

Powder-coated chain wire and posts give a school fence a finished look in black, green or a custom colour. The coating also adds protection against the salty air off Deception Bay. Many schools choose a colour that matches their uniforms or buildings.

Best for: visible frontages

Fencing for a Suburb Full of Schools

Local context

Deception Bay's schools opened in waves as the suburb grew. Deception Bay North State School and Christ the King Catholic Primary both opened in January 1979. The State High School followed in 1992 on a former pine plantation, and Moreton Downs State School opened in 1995. Freshwater National Park and acreage blocks lie further out toward the Bruce Highway.

Common challenges

Many school fences date from those opening years and are now decades old. Grounds often border bushland, reserves or busy roads, so the fence must deter people climbing in after hours. Installation has to fit around classes, sport and drop-off times. The bay's salt air also wears bare steel faster than it would further inland.

Why it matters

A gap in a childcare or school fence is a safety risk, not just a maintenance item. Break-ins after hours lead to vandalism and cost. Noisy work during term disrupts lessons and creates hazards on a busy site.

Our approach

We walk the site with the school first and agree on heights, gate positions and lock-up needs. Then we stage the work, using holidays for the noisiest parts. That keeps fencing in Deception Bay safe to install. Every gate is tested before handover, so fencing in Deception Bay works properly from handover.

Deception Bay School Fencing Problems and Our Fixes

Facilities officers and centre directors raise these three problems more than any others. Here's how we fix each one as part of fencing in Deception Bay. Get in touch to book a site walk for fencing in Deception Bay.

"Students keep climbing over the back fence"

Older chain wire with large openings and a top rail gives easy footholds, especially where the fence backs onto a reserve.

Students leave the grounds unsupervised, and the same weak spot lets intruders in after hours.

We replace the run with anti-climb mesh, which has openings too small for fingers and toes, and remove footholds such as exposed rails. Height can be raised to 2.1 m where that suits the site. Toppings are discussed case by case, as many schools prefer not to use wire toppings.

See security fencing

"The childcare gate doesn't always shut"

Hinges wear and frames drop, so the gate stops closing fully on its own and the latch misses.

An unlatched gate is one of the biggest risks in an early learning centre.

We check the posts and frame, then fit new self-closing hinges and a child-safe latch set high on the gate. If the frame has twisted, we fabricate a new one to the same opening. Every gate is tested from several open positions before we leave.

See chain wire gates

"We can't have crews on site during term"

Fence work involves post-hole digging, concrete and machinery, which clash with classes and play.

Work during term raises safety risks and disrupts lessons, so projects get put off for years.

We plan the job around the school calendar. The noisiest work, such as digging footings, is booked for holidays where possible. Quieter tasks can be done after hours. We agree a staged plan in writing before work starts.

How high should a school perimeter fence be?

School perimeters are usually 1.8 m to 2.1 m high, and sports areas often run from 2.4 m to 4 m. The right height depends on what the boundary faces and how the space is used. Fences over 2 m above natural ground generally need building approval in Moreton Bay, so we factor that into the timeline for fencing in Deception Bay.

Can you work during the school holidays?

Yes, and we recommend it. We plan the noisiest stages, such as digging footings and setting posts, for holidays wherever possible. Smaller tasks can sometimes be done after hours during term. Tell us your key dates early, because holiday periods fill quickly, and we'll build a staged plan around them.

Do your gates suit a childcare centre?

Our pedestrian gates can be fitted with self-closing hinges and child-safe latches placed out of children's reach. Centres are assessed against their own regulations, so share any specific requirements with us before we quote. We'll design the gates and fence base to suit and test each gate before handover. That way fencing in Deception Bay supports your centre's assessments.

Can the fence match our school colours?

Yes. Posts, rails, mesh and gates can be powder-coated in black, green or a custom colour. Many schools match their uniform or building colours so the fence looks like part of the grounds. A coloured finish also adds a layer of protection against corrosion near the bay. We can supply colour samples before ordering.

Can you provide an itemised quote for approval?

Yes. We list each section of fence and each gate with quantities and prices. That makes it easier for a business manager, school council or regional office to approve the work, or to split it across budget years. We can also stage the job into separate quotes. Prices are valid for the period shown on the quote.

Do you also fence kindergartens and early learning centres?

Yes. We install fencing and gates for childcare and early learning centres as well as primary and high schools. These sites need a tight base, small mesh openings and gates that close and latch every time. Ask us to walk the site with your director before we prepare a quote.
